FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Fort Wayne authorities say they've recovered the body of a man who jumped into the chilly, swift currents of the St. Joseph River.

Firefighters searched the river for about two hours Saturday before finding the victim.

Fire Assistant Chief Mike Miller says "the victim went under the water and never came up."

So far, the victim's name isn't being released. Miller tells The Journal Gazette and WANE-TV he doesn't know why the man entered the river, which is murky and has a fast current in the area.

Those involved in the search used boats, ropes and scuba gear before finding the body about 4:45 p.m.

Conservation officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are investigating the death.
