SOUTH BEND – Downtown South Bend is gaining a new store, and it will sell locally grown food.
The Purple Porch Co-op announced a new location Tuesday on Hill Street, just north of Howard Park.
The co-op will renovate the building and open the new store after outgrowing its previous space.
The new facility will offer people the chance to get more than just fruit.
“You’ll be surprised how many local foods we can get here,” said Purple Porch Board President Tama Crisovan. “We can get meat and dairy and cheese and bread and all kinds of vegetables. And we’re going to have a café, so we’ll have ready to eat food. So, we’ll have a lot of varieties.
Purple Porch Co-op started in 2009.
