Children's consignment shop to hold big holiday sale in Carmel

A consignment shop in Carmel, Ind. is preparing to hold a big sale for the holidays.

The holiday event called “Whale of a Sale” will take place in the Meridian Village Plaza at 136th and Meridian streets on Nov. 17 and 18.   The sale will feature items up to 75 percent off retail price.

“The lines can be long and we do our best to get everybody through, and it’s worth it for the amount of money you can save on holiday shopping,” said Courtney O’Neil, owner of Whale of a Sale.

Whale of a Sale has organized eight fall and spring sales in Indianapolis, but this is their first holiday event. 

"Our event is a fantastic way to shop for your kids for less,” said O’Neil. “You can get toys, books, games, gear, puzzles, and some wow items for under the tree like doll houses, and bikes from all your favorite brands, and it's going to be at a fraction of retail price.”

It will provide some great deals that Jennifer Kuntz is not about to pass up as a buyer or seller. 

"It's a great time of year, to get into my boys' closets, their shelves, clean things out and also make a little money to get ready for the holidays,” said Kuntz. 
 
Sellers can register online here.  You can price the items yourself and print their price tags to bring to the big sale.

"And they bring it to us and we try to sell it over the few days of the sale,” said O’Neil. “And we cut them a check afterward.”

Like any consignment shop, they do take a portion of the proceeds.  Sellers can actually keep more for themselves if they volunteer to help with the event. 

The items are gently used goods, but sometimes they are new items that were just never opened or used.  However, it's not always about finding the hot items for the holidays. 

"There are also things that are retired that you can't find in the store,” said O’Neil. “And maybe people don't want to have to comb through Craig's List or E-bay, instead you can find them in one place and generally for less.”
 
The sale is Nov. 17 and 18, but if you're a seller, you can attend a Friday night pre-sale. If you're not a seller, you can also go to that sale, as they're offering a limited number of $10 passes to get in first.
