Meijer offers free health programs for pregnant moms

Going to the pharmacy can be expensive.  Imagine if you are pregnant, it is just another added stress!

So, to remove some of that stress, Meijer has come up three free programs. 

The first program that came out was our select antibiotics,” said Denise Johnson, staff pharmacist at Meijer. “We have six of them that are free up to a 14-day supply that does include a refill so if get more than 14 days, you can always come back and get the rest of it.”
 
The second program is specifically for moms-to-be, pre-natal vitamins.

 “We have seven of them,” said Johnson. “We just added a new one, that you can get a 30-day supply free.”  

That can easily save a pregnant mom $20 to $50 a month, depending on what they take and how much. 

The third program provides free Metformin, which is for diabetics.
 
Southport Meijer Store Director David Poletti said the programs started only about a year ago. 

“It's very important that we do the right thing and help out people, and certainly prenatal vitamins and giving them free out to the community is just an excellent program for us to really start,” said Poletti.
  
Again, it is 100 percent free, so you might be thinking there is some sort of a catch, but not in this case.  

Everyone qualifies, and the only thing you will need is a prescription.  

“Nobody wants to be sick and when you have to come pay for expensive antibiotics, it makes it even worse,” said Johnson. “So, we're out there to help people to make sure they can afford the medication they really need.”
