Energize Indiana wants you to get their energy-savings kit, and if you do, it could save you big bucks.

"What every home owner will get is nine CFL light bulbs, two energy efficient shower heads, two faucet aerators, insulation pipe wraps and a kitchen faucet aerator,” said Mike Braccio, operations director of Energizing Indiana.

Consumers can also receive the income qualified "weatherization program."  The light bulbs are designed to save on electricity rates and the amount of times you have to buy a new bulb.  The CFL's in the kit will use 75 percent less energy than a typical incandescent bulb, and they will last nine to 12 years.  The shower heads are designed to save on the amount of water you use while still providing adequate water pressure.

Many agencies are making this possible, including the IURC, OUCC, CAC and the participating utilities throughout Indiana.

Their mission is to lower your utility usage, and thereby your bill.  Along with the kit, paid for through the utility rates, they will set up a time to come to your house and do a thorough home energy assessment.  While they're doing the assessment and showing you what may need to be fixed, they will also install all the items in the home energizing kit.

Braccio said they've helped out a lot of people already.

"We've performed about 7,500 home energy assessments and we've performed about 1,200 income qualified weatherizations."

All assessments can raise your home’s performance, lower energy bills, improve in-home air quality and increase your home’s value.  Once your home’s energy assessment is complete, you will receive a comprehensive report detailing what can be done to start saving energy and make your home more comfortable.
