Most people talk about exercising after Thanksgiving because of all the good food to eat. However, there are several local exercise events going on during Thanksgiving. There is also a brand new gym that is as close to free as you can get.
So many gyms have closed down in the area recently but not Planet Fitness. The fourth Planet Fitness gym in Central Indiana just opened in Beech Grove. It is $10 a month and requires no contract and no 30-day cancellation penalty.
Clifford Edgemon just joined along with his wife.
“For ten bucks a month you can’t even exercise at home for that,” said Edgemon.
“We pride ourselves on low prices but with a high level of friendliness,” said Michael Campagnolo, regional manager of Planet Fitness Beech Grove. “Our staff really wants to go that extra mile to see that you do the things the right way. We have machines utilized the right way and you're not going to get injured. We have people who really take care in what they do.”
For $19.99 a month, you can upgrade to the premium membership, which is still less than most gyms normal prices.
For the premium price, you can use all the Planet Fitness locations nationwide. You can also bring a friend and use amenities like the tanning beds and the red light therapy room, which is found in many spas. It helps reduce fine lines and cellulite and can tone your muscles with its “Vibra therapy.” For more information on a Planet Fitness in your area, log on to their website. http://www.planetfitness.com/
You can also exercise outside Thanksgiving day. All these events cost $25 and they help out good causes. There is the Sugar Creek Trail Pie Run. Get there by 8 a.m. for the 11th running. There are cash prizes and a free kids run. You get a long sleeve T-shirt and it benefits the Sugar Creek Trail maintenance fund.
If you are in Broad Ripple, there is the Drumstick Dash at 9 a.m. It benefits Wheeler Mission Ministries. As they say, "Come move your feet so others can eat!"
Finally, an event with a close knit family feel: The Michael Treinen Foundation 4th Annual Turkey Trot. The run is in Noblesville at the Indiana Town Square at 9 a.m. So, there's something for everybody!
