George McClellan

Union Gen. George McClellan was put in command of the Army of the Potomac in 1861. He frequently clashed with President Abraham Lincoln on war strategy. McClellan (1826 - 1885), was twice given command of the Union Army of the Potomac and twice relieved of his command due to disagreements over strategy with Lincoln. In 1864 he ran for President as the nominee of the Democratic Party but was defeated by Abraham Lincoln.
