( Ricardo Rojas, Reuters / December 4, 2012 ) Miguel Familia, a dual citizen of the United States and the Dominican Republic, stands chained to the fence of the U.S. consulate with his daughters Ashley (center) and Salome (right), during a demonstration by him to make public his lawsuit against the U.S. government and a New Jersey laboratory that performed a DNA test on him in 2005, in Santo Domingo. Familia is suing the U.S. government for $80 million and the laboratory for $100 million over the DNA test that was performed on him and his daughter Ashley seven years ago as part of their application of citizenship for her. The results of the test showed them not to be biologically related, which Familia claims ended his marriage, but a new test done in a Dominican laboratory last May overturned that finding, proving them to be father and daughter, Familia's attorney Carlos de la Rosa said. |
