NEW YORK (AP) — Aretha Franklin proved her voice is still divine at 69 as she gave a rousing performance during a late-night birthday party in her honor.
Tony Bennett, Smokey Robinson, music mogul Clive Davis, Bette Midler, Roberta Flack and Gayle King were among the celebrities on hand to pay tribute to the Queen of Soul on Friday night. There was also entertainment, but Franklin drew the night's most applause when she joined former Temptations frontman Dennis Edwards in a performance of "The Way We Were."
Franklin called the night a "fabulous moment."
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer underwent surgery for an ailment she has not disclosed late last year, but says she's fully recovered.
