DETROIT (AP) — A suburban Detroit businessman whose acumen for gate-crashing led him to shoot layups before NBA All-Star games and accept the Emmy Award for best supporting actress has died. He was 64.
Barry Bremen died of cancer June 30 in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he lived with his wife. A memorial service held for family and friends Tuesday in Southfield followed a funeral and burial in Phoenix.
Bremen ran a successful merchandising business but was known to millions during the 1980s for sneaking onto professional courts and fields donning chicken suits as well as player and umpire uniforms.
He's famous for being chased off the field by Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy LaSorda in 1986 during All-Star game warm-ups, and accepting an award for Betty Thomas of "Hill Street Blues" in 1985.
