Elkhart County Works Together, a grass-roots group born out of the economic crisis, is offering free vegetable and flower seeds to county residents.

Also, community garden plots are available in Goshen — at Hay Park, south of Black Squirrel Golf Course — and another 67 plots are available along County Road 17. Those plots and water are provided by commercial farmer Kurt Bullard at 56360 County Road 17, a half mile north of the U.S. 20 Bypass.

Other community garden sites are available in Elkhart, Goshen, Middlebury and Nappanee, according to a news release from the group.

The seeds are supplied by the America the Beautiful Fund. McIntosh Greenhouse owners are supplying flats of tomato and pepper plants as well.

To pick up free seeds, call (574) 534-0903.

For more information about the group, visit its Web site at www.ecwt.org.

The group’s office is located at 206 S. Main St., Suite 1, Goshen, above the Ten Thousand Villages store in downtown.
