INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Consumer groups and others who want heating assistance programs to continue are going before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to make their case.

Representatives of United Senior Action, AARP and Citizens Action Coalition along with the Indiana Community Action Association were to go before regulators Tuesday.

Dave Menzer, chairman of the Coalition to Keep Indiana War, says the programs that expired in May are especially needed during tough economic times.

He says the programs help seniors, people with disabilities, families with small children and the recently unemployed maintain utility service.
