Lawsuit alleges Crocs shoes are dangerous for kids

(CBS) — The maker of the popular shoe Crocs is facing a new lawsuit. Some parents say the shoes are dangerous for children.

A 4-year-old suffered serious damage to his foot when his Crocs got caught in an escalator.

And at least two other children have been injured at Hartsfield International in Atlanta, spurring the airport to post signs warning of escalator danger.

“Crocs may be safe and pretty shoes to wear by the beach and by the pool, but they are simply not safe shoes for everyday use and they are certainly not safe on escalators,” said Attorney Andrew Laskin.

"I don't want any more children hurt and parents go through the anguish and the horrible experience that we went through,” said father Victor Portillo. “And if I can save one child I think that's priceless.”

Crocs told the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission the shoes are not a danger on escalators. They say the rider's behavior is the primary cause.
