Jeff and Sara Tow have been training for a year and are ready to take their fight to Lake Michigan.
The couple plan to swim across from Wisconsin to Ludington, raising awareness about an important issue in the process.
"No sleeping, no getting out of the water, just dry to dry," said Jeff Tow.
As for prepping, they know the 50 mile, 30 + hour swim itself is going to be more mental than physically demanding.
"When it comes down to the big swim," said Jeff, "it's going to be very much can our brain allow us to make that trip? And I really think we're in a good spot to do that."
Jeff said he and his wife are in a good spot now because of the mental battle these two already faught twice before.
"At the time we didn't even have a name for what we were going through. We were struggling," Sara said.
Their daughter Samantha was born 11 years ago. Jake, their son, was born nine years ago. After both children's births both Sara and Jeff suffered from postpartum depression.
"For me, I wanted everything to be just perfect, and it just can't be," Sara said.
Jeff added, "What happened is we had this kind of negative feeding going on. I was in a bad place and she was in a bad place and it just went down."
The lessons they've learned, prepared them for a new journey.
"Not only do we need to ask for help, we need to except the help," said Jeff.
Jeff and Sara's longest swim to date has been only 20 miles, but with a six person support team, a year's worth of training, and a cause worth swimming for, they're confident they'll finish their next challenge.
Jeff said, "We had to change to make this event happen. We needed the support. This wasn't just something that we could do on our own."
With three of the four support boats dropping out a week before the swim, what they need now is another boat to be there just in case of an emergency.
The couple said they still plan to get in the water with the one boat they have and make the journey.
If you or someone you know has a boat and would like to participate in their cause you can find information on their Facebook page or throughtheblue.org.
They will also be updating their progress on that same page once they enter the water. I will be following their progress as well for updates on this or other stories simply "Like" my Facebook page.
