Aetna announced Friday that it has appointed Ren Elder, a former Wellpoint executive, as head of the their pharmacy business.
The insurer expects Elder to continue to develop its pharmacy benefit management systems as well as Aetna's strategic agreement with CVS Caremark.
"We are thrilled to have Ren join Aetna at such an important time for our company and our health care system," said Jeff Emerson, head of Aetna Health Care Management. "Our integrated pharmacy benefits can assist our members in safely taking their medications, helping them live safer, healthier lives."
A registered pharmacist, Elder has worked in pharmacy systems his whole career. At Wellpoint, he was the president of the company's pharmacy business, overseeing mail order, specialty pharmacy facilities and retail pharmacy network relationships.
"The opportunity to join a Pharmacy team that already has a successful track record of providing high-quality care is exciting," said Elder. "Aetna is committed to improving the way health care is delivered. I look forward to working with the team; growing the business and helping customers manage the health of their employees and their health care costs."
