Seeing these kinds of images on TV might be too much for some children. That's why professionals are encouraging parents to talk to their kids to help them through it.
They encourage parents whose kids might be stressed by the images to keep their kids away from the TV, and reinsure them that they're safe. Professionals say viewing too many violent images of a stressful situation could lead to a form of post traumatic stress disorder in children.
"Try and reassure them that they'll be there and just kind of assure them that everything is secure and everything is safe again where they don't feel like the bad people will be there again," says Dr. Mwenda Yasa of Prairie View in Newton.
