A Colorado student's family says he was prescribed a lozenge to ease the symptoms of a rare neurological disorder that causes spasms. School officials say he can't take it at school. Normally, this might merit little more than puzzlement over the vagaries of modern high schools.  But the lozenge contains THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.

Thus, a minor controversy has ensued.

The Colorado Independent has been monitoring the situation and the various responses and alleged responses from those involved.

Colorado Springs school district spokeswoman Jennifer Sprague is quoted as saying: “State law says no one can possess or ingest medical marijuana on school grounds. That is not a district rule; that is state law.”
