SOUTH BEND — Budget cuts at one of the area's largest hospitals will impact breast cancer patients.

Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center is closing its Image Recovery Center in South Bend after three years in operation.

The center has provided prostheses, wigs and clothing for women going through breast cancer treatment.

A hospital spokesman says the health care industry is being hit hard by the economy. In addition, the hospital needs to focus its declining revenues on treating the medical needs of all patients, even those who cannot pay.

The center will close for good on Thursday.
