Week 1: Eating out is bad!

Week 1 was hard b/c I had to eat out 5 of the 7 days. 2 days I was at a conference in Chicago where I didn't even have a choice to pick the food, it was provided for us. The other 3 days I went on a mini-ski vacation.

I realized that most restaurants give you way too much food. They probably gave me on average about 4 or 5 serviings worth of each food. It was hard not to over eat especially since it was sitting right in front of me.

What was also hard is the restaurants typically offered food that was too high in carbs or fat or calories. I found out that really there wasn't going to be a perfect meal that I could find but I just needed to choose the best options that were available. I ate fish and chicken (shrimp cocktail is good) and I also avoided eating the delicious bread they try to feed you before the main meal comes.

It was mostly a learning week for me as I over and over learned what foods had lots of carbs, which were high in protien etc. It was also nice to realize I did not need to eat as much food to feel full and that helped keep me out of the Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies I have in my freezer (although I did eat one here and there and appropriately wrote it down.)

Oh and if you have a sweet tooth.. Cool Whip is a good low fat and calorie item. Even after all my eating out I did actually lose a tiny amount of wieght. It was nice to know I was eating healthier options and it was still paying off even though many days I still went over on my calorie, carb and fat intake.
