BROOKLYN (WPIX)—The flow of illegal prescription drugs ran from Los Angeles to Brooklyn. But now New York City's largest distributor of illegal prescription pills is out of business.
Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes announced Wednesday the 49-count Conspiracy Indictment of 6 people involved in a crime ring that sold to students and young professionals..
"This criminal enterprise does not produce dirty needles or crack pipes or addicts lying wasted in alleys and doorways, but it is nonetheless a very serious threat," said Hynes.
The ring flooded Brooklyn with one million dollars in pills shipped monthly from California, investigators said.
"The young people abusing pharmaceuticals, trying to improve their performance at work and at school, are as addicted and often at risk as anyone pumping heroin into a vein, " said Hynes.
