Record Warmth Possible Today

Could break 95 year old record

Record warmth possible for today.

Record warmth possible for today.

Temperatures will near record highs today.  The unseasonably warm weather will stick around through the weekend.  Highs today will likely hit the 60s with highs in the 50s for the rest of the week.  Super Bowl week weather continues to impress with now only a small chance for some snow over the next 7 days.

We are forecasting a high of 62 today.  That’s just 4 degrees off of the record high of 66 set back in 1917.  I give us about a 35 percent chance of breaking or tying the record today.  Highs will range from the mid to low 60s region wide.  One or two communities may warm to the upper 60s!  Today will be partly cloudy skies with wind speeds still in the pesky range of 12 – 25 mph.

If you have late night plans tonight you may want to grab the umbrella.  While we are not expecting a lot of rain, a weak cold front will roll through later tonight pulling temps down and fueling some rain showers.  Rain totals will remain below a fifth of an inch.

Behind the cold front temperatures will cool down just a bit.  We will remain above the seasonal average high of 36 but won’t be anywhere near the 64 we are forecasting today.  Highs all week long should remain above 50 with overnight lows just below 40.

As we get into the weekend a cold front and upper level system will impact the area.  There is a lot of disagreement between models as what to exactly expect and we are going with the most likely scenario which appears to be the GFS.  This model calls for cooler and wet both Saturday and Sunday with some light snow expected after the rain on Sunday.
