(WSBT) A man will spend nine months in prison for illegally selling a gun to a man who killed a South Bend police officer.

Jason Katz plead guilty to selling a 22 caliber handgun to Scott Barnaby at an April 22 gun show.

Barnaby used that gun to fire off shots near the Landing night club on Lincoln Way East.

When officers arrived on scene, Barnaby used a different gun to shoot two of them.

Corporal Nick Polizzotto died from his injuries. Police returned fire and killed Barnaby.

The gun dealer who illegally sold Barnaby the gun used in the officer's death recently pleaded guilty.

He will be sentenced in December.
