(WSBT/AP) The sudden death of one of America's top distance runners is still a mystery.

Autopsy results for Ryan Shay were inconclusive as to how he died.

The 28-year-old former Notre Dame star collapsed in Central Park at the U.S. marathon Olympic trials Saturday. Shay collapsed about five-and-a-half miles into the race and was pronounced dead at a city hospital.

A spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner's office says further testing will be done.

His father told The Associated Press that his son had been diagnosed with an enlarged heart but that he had been cleared for running.

Shay was a nine time All-American for Notre Dame's track and field team and had spent the last few weeks training here in Michiana.
