Families of 2 Livingston County Mauling Victims Sue Dog Owner

IOSCO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The families of two people killed in Livingston County dog attacks have filed wrongful death lawsuits against the owner of four bulldogs.

The Detroit News reports the lawsuits seek $25,000 against Diane Cockrell. She kept as many as 10 bulldogs in a horse stall at her Iosco Township home.

The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus reports prosecutors have charged Cockrell with two 15-year felonies for having dangerous animals causing death. She's expected back in a Brighton court on Thursday for an exam conference.

County prosecutor David Morse says the four dogs attacked 91-year-old Edward Gierlach in his driveway and pounced on Cheryl Harper about 150 feet away.

Cockrell requested a court-appointed attorney at her arraignment Friday. One has yet to be appointed.
