(WSBT) Prosecutors charged a South Bend man with a felony and a misdemeanor in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian Sunday on the U.S. 20 Bypass.

Victor (Tony) A. Pellico III, 38, was charged Tuesday with one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, a felony, and operating a vehicle with 0.15 or more grams of alcohol in the blood, a misdemeanor. He faces up to eight years in prison.

After reports of an accident, around 2:50 a.m. Sunday the South Bend Police found Danielle Jones dead in the eastbound passing lane of the Bypass.

Police also found a red 1989 Toyota Camry with rear end damage, and a beige 2001 Ford F150 pick-up truck with front end damage.

Police believe the Toyota was parked on the side of the road and that Jones was standing outside the car at the time of impact.

Police allegedly found Pellico and his passenger about a quarter mile from the scene of the crash. He told police he saw the victim seconds before the crash but could not avoid her.

A blood test at the hospital showed his blood alcohol level to be 0.215.

Pellico will be arraigned Wednesday in St. Joseph Superior Court.
