Granholm says Detroit mayor's TV apology was "agonizing"

DETROIT (AP) — Governor Jennifer Granholm calls Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's televised apology "agonizing to watch."

Kilpatrick on Wednesday night apologized to his wife, children and Detroit residents for events surfacing from a text messaging sex scandal.

Granholm says she appreciated hearing Kilpatrick talk about how the work of the city will go on.

She says the state works with Detroit on numerous efforts, including Cobo Center expansion plans, neighborhood improvement projects and riverfront redevelopment efforts.

Granholm's comments came Thursday morning after she spoke at the MGM Grand Detroit Casino to a group of business leaders. She recapped several of her proposals from Tuesday's State of the State address.
