LIVONIA, Mich. (AP) — A suburban Detroit physician will be tried on charges of fondling three women, including an 18-year-old who said he fondled her during a sports physical in 2003.

The woman testified during a preliminary hearing for Dr. Joseph T. Paupore of Belleville, who allegedly groped her in his Livonia office.

Defense attorney Rolland Sizemore III questioned the 18-year-old's claims, contending she returned for other procedures and sent Paupore an "affectionate" note after the alleged incident.

But District Judge Kathleen J. McCann ordered Paupore to stand trial on three counts of criminal sexual conduct. The Detroit News reports he also will be tried on charges involving two women ages 24 and 45. A separate charge involving a 37-year-old patient is pending.

Paupore's license was suspended in February.
