I just wanted to tell my story about the earthquake. I was asleep and my bed started shaking. Then the windows and at first I thought it was the wind then I realized the wind can't make my bed shake. We have wind chimes in our house and they were rattling. It was scary. The funny thing is my mom and sister slept through it. It woke my dad and I up. I then felt the aftershock. It made my windows and couch that I was sitting on start shaking. I live in San Pierre, IN.
--Christy from San Pierre
Our family is having trouble with our Cell phones. Unable to dial out or receive calls. We called the South Bend Verizon office 271-9819 and was told the earthquake has messed up the Cell towers and they are working on it. I think we are starting to discover some effects from this event today.
--Melodee from South Bend

I was writing to my family back home when the 2 one I felt at around 11:15 my desk started to shake and rattle. This is like old home week for me comeing from Cali as i remeber the Lomapratea Quake in 1989.
--Nicole from Culver
I was sitting at my office desk and felt a weak but definite back and forth movement of the building, and the door and windows were rattling. I work in a house that is a combination of office in front and rental apartment in back. The USGS website shows another earthquake in the last hour in the Midwest area.
--Becky from Mishawaka
I am a high school teacher at Penn. The students and I noticed the projector, which is very susceptible to movement, vibrate and the water in my fish tank vibrating twice during this time period.
--Shellie from Mishawaka

I felt my chair move with me in it, the grandfather clock heavy weights were shaking. I called WSBT a bit ago when it happened. This is a bit scary, we do not live in California where they are used to these things. What is going on?
--Melodee
Whew! I just felt a big aftershock at 11:20 a.m.! I think it felt stronger than the first one! Kinda spookey!

Hello WSBT staff, this is Janet from Benton Harbor, MI, I am at work at about 11:18 am. I felt another Earthquake tremble.
--Janet from Benton Harbor
I live on Redfield just North of Granger. I woke up around 5:40a.m. to the doors on my armoire shaking. They shaking seemed to last approx. 10 seconds and seemed to not have must intensity at my house. I’m not normally awake at this time so I turned on the news and confirmed my thoughts of an earthquake.
--Todd from Niles
We live in Buchanan, Mi. and have a six foot pet alligator that sleeps under our bed. I was awakened this morning to the bed shaking back and forth. I initially thought that Chomps was thrashing about for some reason under the bed. Then I noticed items in other rooms were rattling too. I listened for the wind, thinking maybe it was a tornado or storm. I heard nothing. I then woke my wife, who had slept through it, and told her I thought we had an earthquake. She said I probably was dreaming. We then turned on the news. Thanks for confirming it wasn't just a dream!
--Mario and Nancy from Buchanan
Hi,
I just wanted to mention that I did infact feel the earthquake this morning. I had just given our son a breathing treatment at 5:10 a.m. and had him settled down reading a book with me in our bed. At 5:40-ish I heard a wierd noise from the house, creeking, poping like noises, thats when I realized our house was moving and our bed was swaying! I was in awe and couldn't believe it, it only lasted about 10 to 12 seconds. Our daughter who is 9 asked me this morning getting ready for school if we had an earthquake! She said her bed was moving and her tall dresser mirror.
--Nicole from Mishawaka
OKay, here is my freaky earthquake story. I live in Michigan City, IN. I was in the shower and heard a really strange noise, I jump out of the shower to check on my babies, I see the cabinet doors in the bathroom shaking. I even feel them to make sure I am not crazy. Then I come to the conclusion that a bat must have gotten into the cabinet and was now trying to get out.
So I grab a towel so if a bat comes flying out I can try to catch it, and swing open the cabinet door, no bat.
I went in the bedroom and that is when I heard about the earthquake, I was actually relieved.
--Eileen from Michigan City
We felt the earthquake here in Winona Lake at about 5:40. We knew it was an earthquake because we were in CA at the time of the Northridge earthquake.
--Milt from Winona Lake
I wrote thinking it was from a distant train...............Well went I went to wake my son up for school I notice his curtain rod was hanging half off.........also when I ask my husband if he felt it, because I notice he kicked at something while it was happening... he thought our English Mastiff was leaning up against the bed scratching himself, so he was shoeing away what he thought was the dog!
--Melissa from Middlebury
I thought my husband was having his spell of restless legs and was shaking the bed so I kicked his legs to stop him from shaking the bed and when he didn't move I thought well it was my dog under the bed. After I got up and turned on the news it was then I realized that I had kicked my husband for no reason. It was the earthquake moving my bed not my husbands restless legs...Whoops......
--Karen from Mishawaka
It woke me up in Streamwood Villas, Granger.
--Madeline from Granger
I had sent you an email earlier saying how I had felt a slight tremor in Berrien Center, MI. Since that time I had stopped at the coffee shop and one of the guys was saying how he actually felt his bed shake and he lives on M140 North just north of Eau Claire, MI.
--Pam from Berrien Center
We felt the earth move in New Carlisle this morning...about 5:40. We live just west of South Bend and it definitely rocked the house, the bed shook and the dressers in our room shuddered...amazing! Glad we were on the fringes.
--Sue and Tim from New Carlisle
We had a tremor, here in Edwardsburg, at 5:42 am, this morning. It lasted about 15 to 20 seconds. We were upstairs when it started shaking the bed and woke me up. I woke up thinking something was wrong with my husband. He was still sleeping, so I started to get up to look around and then it finally stopped . It shook the whole house then slowly started subsiding. I had felt a tremor before, some years back in Rochester, Indiana, I think, sometime in the late 80's, so I knew what a tremor felt like. I have also been in California and experienced the feeling of a tremor, so I suspected that was what was happening. I was not aware that were were that close to a fault line. When I got up my husband said you had it on the news that there was an earthquake in southern Illinois/Indiana, so I was not surprised. This was a long way for it to be felt.
--Patricia and George from Edwardsburg
I live in Eau Claire Mich and felt the earthquake this morning also. I was sitting on the couch and felt it move alot at first then it calmed down to a swaying motion, but I also heard an eerie noise like a rumbling thunder. I yelled to my husband who was still in bed, he came running out saying he felt the bed moving and the windows rattling, at first he thought I was shaking him to wake him. I lasted a good 15 seconds or more.
--Janet from Eau Claire
several of us in howe felt the earthquake this am, woke my grandson up cause hes bed was shaking.
--Karen in Howe
I live in Baroda, Michigan, about 20 plus miles northwest of South Bend.
I felt the tremor at 5:39 am. I was on the computer and my chair and computer desk wobbled/swayed for a few seconds.. I knew it was an earthquake tremor because I've experienced one some years ago at a different city.
--From Baroda
We felt it in Coloma, Michigan. I wanted to share this with you because I thought it was a little weird. ALL night long I had been up with severe anxiety like something was about to happen and my skin was crawling. My dad had awoken to get ready for work around 4 am (EST) time and I told him about my (seemingly) unnecessary anxiety. He went upstairs to finish getting ready and I sat down in our first floor living room to watch TV. Around 5:40 am EST time I began to feel a small tremor. It proceeded to get worse and I muted the TV and began to panic when I realized the keys on our wall rack where shaking and clanging against the wall. I looked up to notice that the chandelier in our foyer was swaying as well. I began screaming for my dad to come down and he came out of his room just as it stopped. He said he didn't really feel anything, (it lasted about 30 seconds or so) and my mother slept through it. (I'm a 22 year old college student who lives at home.) About a half an hour later I saw the reports of the earthquake in souther Illinois. I live by three power plants, one of which is nuclear (palisades) and my FIRST thought was that there had been some kind of explosion at one of them. I was a little relieved to find that it was an earthquake and even more relieved once I saw the reports of no serious injuries anywhere. Lets hope it stays that way. What a way to start the morning
--Sara from Coloma
I am contacting you from elkhart about this am's tremor. At approx 5:41 this morning i was opening up the shop where i work and heard several over haed doors making noise as if they were opening but to my surprise none were. They just shook and the building, which is on a concrete slab 20,000 square ft in size, made all kinds of weird noises and quick vibrations. At first i thought i was loosing it but then thought with the elkhart train yard less than 2 miles away maybe something happened there. so imagine my surprise to find out that an earthquake happened in the midwest. Ironiclly i had just watched a special about earthquakes on the discovery channel about two-three weeks ago and they described how in the 1800's that there were many violent quakes in the st. louis area.....one was so sever it caused the mississippi to flow backwards for about 30 miles......... How weird!!!
--Joe from Elkhart
Hello my name is Jeremy, my wife called me this morning and said she was at the drive thru at Mcdonalds and felt her van rock back and forth. She thought someone was pushing it side to side, then she looked at the flag and there was no wind. She said she was going to call me and tell me the van wasnt running right, the a fellow employee told her he heard about the earthquake on the radio.. This happened in Stevensville Michigan!
--Amy and Jeremy from Stevensville
Good morning, I just wanted to mention that this morning I too felt the earthquake.
I was lying in bed when I felt my bed gently shake, I thought it was one of my kids
trying to wake me up by shaking the bed, I looked at the clock and it was 5:40 am.
--Greg from Buchanan
Felt quake here in New Troy, got call from daughter up in Ludington, Mi. They felt it there, Grand Rapids T V , was all a buzz. Keep up the good work, we know we can always count on you.
--Bill and Arlene from New Troy
The one this morning woke me up. But I felt the same phenomena yesterday afternoon sometime between 5 & 7 pm, although it was somewhat lighter. That one woke me up from a nap. (Honestly, I don't sleep all that much!) Live in a semi-urban setting in Cassopolis away from main highways, farm land equipment operation, etc. One of the earth sciences profs @ Notre Dame has some cool maps that show the earthquake fault lines throughout our area and surrounding states. Folks might be surprised to know just how likely an earthquake right here in Michiana could be. I saw the maps firsthand back in the early 80's, and based on what I learned I purchased earthquake insurance for my home.
--Jen from Cassopolis
Good Morning! We're in Niles, on the Southeast side. The windows rattled in out house. We didn't actually feel the quake, but knew it was happening. A very strange sensation since we have no control.
--Pat from Niles
This morning at 5:37 as I lay unable to sleep, I heard this thump that seemed like an animal jumping to the floor. Since I have no pets, this made me bolt up straight. The windows were rattling too and the house creaking. So, I thought there must be high winds or a storm, but there wasn't. As I lay back down, I thought about an earthquake and a little later turned on WSBT when you had a story about a meteor--then you said it was in Kokomo--so I turned off the t.v. and waited for the alarm to go off at 6:00. NPR was saying there was an earthquake in Illinois. Then I turned WSBT t.v. on and you were talking about it. I was glad it was not something in my house.
--From Conrad
Approximately 5:40 this morning I was sitting in my chair with a cup of coffee watching the news (yes, of course it was you). Probably because I was sitting more on one hip, but I felt really strange that there was movement I could not control. Ever so slight. I thought it was some kind of muscle spasms or something. My husband who sat right across from me never felt anything. As I said, it was ever so slight. I'm just glad to know it wasn't me)
--Pam from Berrien Center
Update on the quake: I thought my son got home early from college. The whole house was rattling, just like it does when he hits the door after a full semester at Purdue! But that little tremor was nothing. In 1992 we were camping with our four young children in Barstow California in a tent camper when the mammoth 7.4 quake struck just 100 miles south along the major California faultline. The duration was a full 60 seconds. The earth moved so violently that it nearly overturned our camper. It moved our old '79 Buick full size wagon across the desert floor. Water from the camp pool was running everywhere because the side to side motion was so severe it nearly emptied the pool. There were 5 foot gaps in the highway, and the whole thing rattled you right down to your teeth and bones! My wife was practically hysterical. We had never experienced ANYTHING like this before. I myself of course, was perfectly calm, and the little kids slept through the whole thing. Go figure. Just thought I'd let you know. This little quake was a curiosity, but out there in California, the earth really knows how to move!
--From Norm
We felt the quake all the way over here in small town Hartford, MI. It vibrated my whole house. LIke the Centerville caller I thought that it was a severe wind storm at first or an extremely heavy train, as I live fairly close to a railroad but, have never felt it vibrate my home before. I looked outside and to my amazement the was no major wind. Then about 10-15 minutes your news station confirmed my thought of a quake. Shaken in Hartford!!!, Amy
--Amy from Hartford
We live in Fish Lake and our camping trailer was on a block and it's now on the ground. About the time this happened our big dog went crazy and running in circles.
--Diane in Fish Lake
I live up in Sister Lakes, Michigan, and my house sits on a concrete slab. I was working on the computer this morning when my blue and gold macaw parrot started squawking like crazy. I calmed her down and she kept saying "Come here baby, come here baby", which is what she does when she's scared. When I saw the news about the quake I knew what had scared her - she did the same thing when we experienced a similar quake about 6 years ago.
--Darlene from Sister Lakes
I was at work here at the local hospital and was on the third floor. I felt the earthquake very well! I asked another co-worker if they felt anything and they thought I just needed more sleep, until it came across the news that we just had an earthquake. Thanks!
--From John
I live on the West end of Niles near Philip Street and felt the earthquake. I was sitting at the table enjoying my first cup of coffee when the dishes started to rattle and pictures on the wall were shaking. I thought it was the wind.
--Maryann from Niles
I felt a shaking around 5:30-5:35 AM. I knew enough to stay in bed because I grew up in California and felt the big one in 1972. I knew that this one wasn't as big, at first I thought that my cat was washing himself, I looked at him and he wasn't moving, he looked at me, then jumped down off the bed and layed on the floor, I then knew that it was an earthquake.
I thought that I also felt a couple of aftershocks within a couple of minutes.
--Jenny from Mishawaka
I also felt the earthquake this morning at 5:37am. I was woken up with our bed and the window pains shaking. The shaking stopped at 5:37am. I live just north of the Notre Dame campus in South Bend, IN.
--Ginger from South Bend
We felt the earthquake in Granger, Indiana. I woke up because the bed was shaking, so I told my husband to quit shaking his legs. He's a big guy, 6' 7". His legs were bouncing on the bed. The doors were also shaking. Then it stopped. I never looked to see what time it was and went back to sleep. When the alarm clock woke me up at 6 a.m., the big news was the earthquake. My husband said he never heard me and didn't feel a thing. My son was in the next room and thought his muscles were spasming. We live near Northpoint/Mary Frank schools off of Adams Road.
--Theresa from Granger

Hi, my name is Julie I'm from LaPorte, IN and I would just like to say that, wow, I have never felt an earthquake before today. I was downstairs watching Silence of The Lambs lol and I also had my laptop running and I heard the strangest noises... I thought my washer was on because I was moving side to side, then I heard my mom moving around upstairs so I shut the tv off and heard the windows shaking and the floor finally stopped moving and she goes, I think we just had an earthquake. Scared me at first cause it had sounded like someone was trying to break in but then I started moving so I didn't really know what it was then lol... all I can say is, amazing.
--Julie from LaPorte
I am writing from Goshen. Our bedroom is located on the 2nd floor of our home. I was awakened about 5:40 am and it felt like the bed was "trembling", and I could hear a "clinking" noise as if our toothbrushes were hitting the ceramic container they are kept in. I felt the "trembling" and heard the "clinking" off and on, in rapid succession, for about a minute. I thought I must be dreaming so I turned the radio on (your station) and heard the announcer taking calls from people talking about an earthquake! I turned on the TV and eventually heard about an earthquake near the Evansville area that lasted about 40 seconds. I will keep listening for further updates.
--Pat from Goshen
I live in Niles at Barron Lake. I was sitting on the sofa while my husband was fixing his lunch for work. I heard this noise and yeld for him. I thought some animal was under the floor in the crawl space, all of a sudden the sofa started to kind of roll. I know now what it was watchimg your news. Thank God there is no animal. I have felt this before about 12 years ago while working at a bar here at the Lake. The floor just starts rolling.

My bedroom is located in my basement. I live in Buchanan (closer to Baroda) and the earthquake was strong enough to shake me awake at 5:39 this morning. I thought I was dreaming (and/or losing my mind!) but when I sat up in bed after the shaking ended, I confirmed the earthquake was real thanks to Kirk Mason. :) I'm not losing my mind! My bed is on rollers and it moved it slightly (maybe 2-3 inches). And my end table was rattling, the lampshade was tapping against the wall. My cats immediately ran under my bed. I called my nieces in Baroda to confirm the 5.4 earthquake, and they told me they felt it too. Their bedrooms are on the 2nd floor of their farmhouse. Thanks for confirming the earthquake WSBT. My 11 year old son will be disappointed to know he just slept through his first earthquake. Have a great Friday! Thanks for all you do in the mornings. We appreciate it!
--Tasha from Buchanan
I live in Dowagiac, Mi.. At appx. 5:40 a.m. while watching WSBT news and working on the computer, my chair began to shake also the flat screen monitor. My first thought was something happened at the factory nearby which does happen occasionally but since I hadnt heard anything I didn't know what it was. It lasted about five seconds.
--From Dowagiac
Yes I felt it here in Wakarusa at 5:39 am. It woke me up and I almost felt sick to my stomach from the bed moving - at first I thought maybe my husband was still home and bumped the bed - then I thought maybe large rumblings of thunder and then I thought there might be someone in my house!! I turned on your channel and then hear about 10 minutes later about the earthquake - Glad to know I am not crazy.
--Caryn from Wakarusa
I definitely did feel the earthquake this morning! I was in bed, in and out of sleep, but the rattling of my lamps, doors and shaking of my bed alerted me. I have 4 dogs and I thought one of my dogs was leaning against my bed/dresser and itching. When I looked and realized none of my dogs were up, I thought it could have been an earthquake. I was anxious to get up to watch the news and there it was! Thank you for your prompt reporting!
--Debbie from Warsaw
Hi, I'm go to the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, and just got woken up by the earthquake. I live on the second floor of the appartments here on campus. I was dead asleep when the earthquake hit. After I was wide awake the appartment was still shaking. I thought it high winds like we've had before, but high winds don't shake me out of sleep. I'm fine and so are my roommate. Because I'm from South Bend I thought you would like to know.
--Molly from South Bend
I felt it in Stevensville, MI It woke me up!
--Gail from Stevensville
I felt the earthquake here in Goshen and it was 5:39 AM. I was getting ready to get up, when I felt my bed start shaking. I lay there wondering what it was, and I knew I wasn't having a dream because I was awake. All I could think was there were some strong winds blowing and shaking the house.
--Carol from Goshen
We felt it shake our house in Lydick, IN around 5:38am. My wife told me to stop shaking the bed.
--Jim from Lydick
I felt the earthquake! I had just woken up around 5:30. I was awake but still in bed when I felt slightly disoriented, and felt like the bed was moving for several seconds. I teach middle school science and the teacher next door to me regularyly follows the USG website that posts most recent earthquakes. We were discussing yesterday the number of recent earthquakes in the US so I was mentally attuned to the idea of earthquakes. I immediately turned on the computer, went to the USG website and found the 5.4 earthquake in southeastern Illinois. I was right! I did feel an earthquake.
--From Jeannette
Hello, We felt the earthquake in Baroda this morning. I was in bed and the whole bed shook. My husband was in the other room and his recliner was shaking and our floor was creeking--which sometimes happens in one corner of our house when people walk over there--but no one was walking over there. I was so surprised to hear it on the news so soon after it happened!
--Karen and Jim from Baroda
I live in North Judson, Indiana (Starke County) and woke up when the bed was shaking. The lamp on the dresser was also rattling loudly and it felt like someone was bumping the bed. My first thought was that maybe this was an earthquake. But, having been woke up from a very deep sleep, I thought that perhaps I had just been dreaming. I turned on the news and learned that it was an earthquake. If you remember, we had another very mild earthquake about 21 years ago that affected our area. I was a teenager, at the time, living in Elkhart and I was in the bathroom getting ready to go out with friends. Our bathroom had glass shower doors and the doors began to rattle. They kept rattling for what seemed like a long time and I remember thinking this was very strange. Then, later on the news, we learned that it had been an earthquake. I will be watching for more info on this story. Thanks for assuring me that I was going crazy this morning!
--Heather from North Judson
The earthquake woke me up at 5:30. The trains use a very old bridge that crosses the channel that lies between Syracuse Lake and Lake Wawasee. Chunks of cement have fallen into the water channel in the past and we've been worried about the bridge for years. My first thought when my bed was shaking so much was "It might make the trains derail!" The East /West train line is very busy. Trains pass through Syracuse every 10 minutes during the night. I don't know what cargos are on those trains, but I am sure some of it is hazardous if there is a spill.
Can you make the train track companies inspect that trestle?
Residents of Syracuse would really appreciate some reassurance.
--Barbara from Syracuse
I am writing in regards to the earthquake this morning. My husband and I were awaken by what we thought was the dog scratching under the bed. It felt like he was shaking the whole house. The water in the water glass on the night stand shook and the bed shook. It was when we realized the dog isn't in the bedroom that we knew to turn on the news and find out what happened. We live around the Marcellus, MI area.
--JoAnne and Bryan from Marcellus
I live in Dowagiac, MI. The earthquake shook the whole house and got us all us this morning.
--Tracey from Dowagiac
We felt the quake in Buchanan. Our whole house "groaned" and the windows rattled.
It woke our daughter up as she sleeps upstairs. I was on the first floor and felt the movement
of the tremor move from west to east through our house like a wave, shaking our house in sections. My husband was at his desk in the basement. He heard the groan of the house and felt his chair "tremor." It was not the first earthquake that I have felt as I remember the Michigan tremor (1983?) that was quicker and not as strong as this one. I have also lived in Southern California during earthquakes. This felt very similar to what I experienced there.
--Cindy from Buchanan
I felt the earthquake this morning. My bed started to shake. The motion detector lights on the house and the neighbors lights went on. I think there was an after tremor about 5 minutes later. I got up to see what was going on and the items on the refrigerator started to shake for just a second. We have a small koi pond next to the house. We have been trying to get the fish to come up from the bottom for the last few days. It always takes a while for them to start swimming around after the winter. We haven't seen them yet this spring and we thought they may have not survived the winter. This morning they were swimming around near the top of the pond. I think the earthquake woke them up.
--From Leslie
Just a little note to inform you that I felt the earthquake in Dowagiac. I was sitting in my living room when the side table I was sitting by started to vibrate. I thought how weird and then I noticed my chair I was in was shaking. No one was around me so I knew it wasn't someone walking across the floor. It only lasted about 20 to 30 seconds and wasn't really strong. But about 10 minutes later I saw the report on the news about the earthquake and I knew what I felt then.
--Denise from Dowagiac

I live in Rolling Prairie, IN and I felt the quake. My bed shook as I was laying in it, the dresser and windows were shaking. There does not appear to be any damage. It only lasted for about 10 seconds.

Just before getting out of bed this morning I felt the bed jiggle and that supprised me. Having Parkinson's Disease I'm well aware of things shaking, but when the whole bed started moving like someone was trying to wake me up,that seemed a little too much. Then I heard there was an earthquake when I turned on WSBT news this morning.
--Jim from Goshen
I am from Stevensville, Michigan and up early working on my computer everyday. This morning I felt the room shake and and thought it was pouring down rain outside, turns out there was no rain, but buds were being violently shaken from the trees outside. I felt an earthquake lasted about 10-20 seconds. What is the news on this. I don't see anything on your website. It happened around 5:45 a.m., or so.
--Pattie from Stevensville
I live on the tenth story of a highrise building in Elkhart.Around 5:38am my whole apartment started moving like jerking back and forth.Kind of like someone kicking my couch. Was watching news halfway awake.I knew immeiadetly what it was and got up and went for my doorframe. The building made some really funny sounds too.Kinda creepy being able to feel it so far off the ground.I thought I was crazy for a minute until you guys announced it since it rarely happens here.
--Jamie from Elkhart
I did not know what was happening this morning when I felt my bed shake. I woke up around 5:30 and was laying in bed to hear the weather before I got up. Somewhere between 5:40 and 5:43 I felt my bed shake, there was no one around it, and it is a queen size waterbed with drawers underneath that we converted to a regular mattress. Only a cat could get under it. When I heard the news I realized what I felt. I live in Granger near the line of Edwardsburg, thought you would like to know how far the tremor was felt.
--Kim from Granger
My husband and I live two miles south and west of Mentone, IN. I could not sleep early in the morning and had gone to our living room to sleep of the sofa. I was awakened by a shaking sensation and low rumbling sound. I thought I was dreaming and sat up on the sofa and looked around and listened. Everything was quiet. About 5:50 AM, my husband came into the living room and asked if I had been up a little earlier. He, too, heard and felt something. We then turned on channel 22 and heard about the earthquake. I have a brother and his wife in Evansville, so I'm sure we will be in touch this morning.
--Gail and Cindy from Mentone
At 5:40 my husband and myself felt the earthquake in St. Joseph, Michigan. First we heard a strange noise outside and then it felt like something was pushing on our house. We heard creaking noises and everything started to shake. I have felt an earthquake before in St. Joseph about 22 years ago. Just wanted you to know that it did reach us in Michigan as well.

I just wanted to let you folks know that we here in Berrien Springs,. Michigan felt the quake about 25 minutes ago (it's 6:17 as I write this.) I remember when another one hit years ago and the cameras at the WNDU station fell over during the afternoon news!
This time, I was sitting in my comupter chair, listening to Kurt on the TV (yes, WSBT!) when I got dizzy and realized that my chair was shaking. Boy did I jump up fast! I was running a load of laundry too and the washer had just started the spin cycle and for a moment I thought something was wrong with it, shaking so hard! Good to know I don't need a new washer yet! Have a great morning and Day!!
--Sarah from Berrien Springs
My husband and I were laying in bed around 5:37 this morning and our bed was shaking slightly. We couldn't figure out why, then we got up and turned on the news and heard about the earthquake. We think that is what we felt and we live in Leesburg, In

I live in Knox, IN and I was startled by hearing a rumbling and feeling the house shake. I thought that a wind storm suddenly came up and looked at the weather to see if we had any storms.
--Robin from Knox
My name is Michelle, I'm from Argos, Indiana. About 5:40 this morning I was on my sofa watching tv when I felt the sofa start to rock. My shelves were also moving alittle. But to be honest with you, to me this was nothing. I lived in California for a year and You wanna talk about trimmers. This was like being in my laundry room while my washing machine is on spine cycle and off balance. To me it was nothing. I just find it strange to feel a trimmer in Indiana
--Michelle from Argos
Hi I live in Kewanna, IN and I was sleeping and felt the tremors. It woke me up. I woke up with my body/bed actually shaking. My husband woke up too and he assumed it was the cat. I was starting to get scared and thought it could of been a ghost LOL. I was going to go back to sleep and just assume it was the cats, until we caught it on the news. Lets just say I am wide awake now.
--Jennifer from Kewanna
This morning when I woke my teenage son up at 6am he told me that something freaky happened to him. He said that at about 5:30 he felt his bed shaking and the windows were rattling like someone was trying to break in the house. He said he got out of bed and looked out his bedroom windows and did not see anyone. I came out to my kitchen and turned on the TV and heard the lady from Plymouth talking about her bed shaking and windows rattling. Just wanted to let you know that we felt it here. We live close to the Michigan State line in Indiana. We have a Bristol address.

Wanted to let you know we felt it here in Walkerton. We were just getting up to start getting the kids ready for school and a curio cabinet that I have on the wall started to rattle. It has a loose pane of glass in it and usually rattles when the furnace starts. It was rattling more than it usually does, we had a train going by at the same time and the track is about 2 miles away. After I checked the house and didn't find anything out of sorts the one thing that came to my mind was a quake, but I was thinking the New Madrid Fault.
--Edward and JoAnn from Walkerton
We live 6-1/2 miles east of LaGrange and felt the ground and house move or shake like a wave ran through the ground. That was very strange. It was like some thing was pushing the house. It happened about 5:40 am.

I woke up at 5:36 am with my bed shaking so hard that the metal headboard was shaking and making noises. When it stopped, I thought I heard a noise outside and thought possibly there had been an explosion or an earthquake, so I turned my tv on to News 22. Thanks for letting me know it was an earthquake
--From Anita
I was up at 5 and was reading my Bible on the couch like I always do. We live in the middle of a corn field, so there is not much traffic. It was 5:41 on our clock. The whole house shook, and the floor was shaking under my feet. I looked outside, because sometime, really big farm equipment goes by the house and rattles the windows, but there was nothing out there. I listened for wind, thinking it must be really windy out to shake the house like that. No wind. I did feel the earthquake in 198? when I lived in Niles, and it was similar to that. We live farther away from Illinois, so I thought I would report to you. I looked at the clock, because when I was done reading I was going to check the news to see if it was really an earthquake. And the first thing I heard was that there was an earthquake. I guess I was right. Thanks for listening. Have a great day. Stay safe.
--Laura from Centreville

Not sure how far away it was felt, but it was definitely felt here in Dowagiac.

I thought it was after effects of an earthquake but I thought it couldn't be that. When I turned on the TV to channel 22, you were interviewing someone who said the exact same thing that I was feeling. We definitely felt it here in Elkhart at our house.

My husband and I felt the earthquake this morning. He was in our bathroom off of our bedroom, and I was sleeping in bed . . . I had hit snooze. I thought that the dog was scratching and she was shaking the bed . . . there really is no way that that could of been the case. Our dog is 12 years old, and our bed is way too sturdy for her to shake the bad. At that same time, my husband said that the mirror in our bathroom was shaking too. We live in Osceola close to the Elkhart county line.
--Angi from Osceola

I just turned on the news after my shower and heard there was an earthquake - which I felt...just north of the airport at Bendix and Cleveland!!! I was laying in bed in a dead sleep and I woke up and thought the bed was shaking! I could feel my head and body moving rapidly as if someone had been vibrating my bed back and forth. At the time, I thought nothing of it. I thought, I'm just tired, I have to get up in a little bit, so go back to sleep. But it kept on shaking - I rolled over to see if my fiance had woken up, and he did not, so again, I didn't think anything of it. Then I heard that there was an earthquake!!! I just heard the lady from Plymouth say she heard it, but I am much farther north and I felt it - but it probably couldn't have been as severe. I am on the second floor of Maple Lane apartments - no damage, no neighbors wondering what happened. So overall it was very minor compared to what some people probably felt more south of me. Thanks for keeping me informed WSBT!!!
--Jen from South Bend
Yes, we felt it here in Granger. I woke up about 5:40 with the bed shaking. My daughter came into my room and asked what was going on. I said, "I don't know. I think we just had an earthquake." I turned on WSBT and it was stated that the epicenter was in Southern Illinois. At that time my daughter called my husband, who is in southern Illinois. He stated that he felt the quake and that car alarms were going off. He doesn't know of any damage yet.
--Lisa from Granger

I live in an apartment complex in Elkhart, IN on Bristol St. At about 5:40 my computer monitor began shaking. My apartment as a whole seemed to shift. I thought I was loosing it for a minute so I sat down near my computer and sure enough my monitor along with pictures as well as windows shook. You could also hear a slight settling sound that you sometimes hear in apartments when the wind blows hard. I began making phone calls, asking if others felt it and of course your breaking news came on and confirmed that I was not loosing my mind. Thanks WSBT.....
--Teri from Elkhart
The earthquake woke me up from my sleep because my house was shaking. My whole bed was rocking. It felt like someone was shaking my mattress. My first thought was a tornado. I went to grab my kids, but I realized that it was not storming. I called my mom who lives in Valparaiso and she said that a door in their kitchen kept banging, but she did not notice her house shaking.
--April from Wanatah
i just heard you reporting about the tremors. At approx. 5:40, I was sitting at my computer on the first floor of my house checking my emails. I heard a creaking noise from the second floor. It reminded me of the sound the house makes when there is a heavy wind. As my chair felt like it was shifting back and forth for a few seconds, I realized it must be a really strong wind or a tremor. I looked outside and checked for wind. Then I heard my 6 year old crying upstairs. Her shaking bedroom woke her up. And it woke up one of my sons. My husband and I both wondered if it was an earthquake. So, I got on the USGS website and sent in my comments. Then I turned on the TV and heard your report. We live between Shipshewana and Topeka in a little town called Emma. i have only felt one other tremor in my life up here in northern Indiana. This was a little stronger than the last one, but that was was in Kentucky if I remember right.
--Dee from Emma

Good Morning... The wife and I was watching 22 news at 5:40 when it felt like the washer start to spin.. Problem was it was off. We felt more movement than I can ever remember. Others in the past have asked if I felt the quake last night, or yesterday. But this one was felt. It lasted about 7-10 seconds. Lampshades were shaking, and the coffee in the cup continued to show signs of movement for about 30 seconds before settling down. No dish rattling, However the house did shake pretty good. Just like an off balance load going into spin cycle. What a way to wake up huh? Just wanted to inform.
--Michael from Shipshewana

Good Morning!! My husband and I were having our morning coffee before he went to work and we felt a vibration. We heard it come from our basement. It was a slight boom and rattle sound. Everything is okay outside. We just looked at each other and asked what was that? Our cat just looked at the floor. No damage done that we could see. We don't really know if this was part of the earthquake or not. It lasted just a few seconds.
--Don and Perry from LaGrange County
I felt the earthquake here in Mishawaka. I was sound asleep, when the shaking of my bed woke me. I had no idea what was happening. The wind chimes I have hanging in my dining room started clinking at a fairly good rate. I then thought it must be an earthquake, although I had never felt one before. I was just calling my husband at work to ask if earthquakes did occur here in Indiana, ( I have only been in Indiana about 2 1/2 years) when I had your news break on TV. No damage, other than shaken nerves for a few minutes.
--Gloria from Mishawaka
I felt the earthquake also. I was a bit shocked as you were just finishing the story from Wednesday morning about a possible meteorite falling??? I heard my chandelier light dangling and moving along with other items in my home. As a stood up from the chair, I felt my house shake slightly and several hanging pictures move slightly. Then it was over. Luckily there is no damage to my home. I have never felt this before, so I called the State Police and they informed me that there were several calls in the state for what may have been an earthquake, but they could not confirm.

I live in Warsaw, was reading and watching the news when I heard the house creak and the chair I was sitting in tremble. It wasn't anything huge and I thought I was imagining it, so I muted the TV to totally concentrate on what was happening but, by that time, it was subsiding. About 10 minutes later, when it was announced on air that there had been an earthquake in Illinois, I realized it wasn't my imagination. Thanks, WSBT, for reassuring my I wasn't going crazy!!

I thought my dog was rooting under the bed for something but when I called him, he came from the other end of the house. About 15 minutes later, my son, who is a student at Indiana State University in Terre Haute called me to tell me there was and earthquake and all the details of 5.4 on the ricter scale. I live just south of Kern road on US 31. I was just sitting in my chair looking at a magazine and watching the news and all of a sudden the house started to slowly shake in the weirdest way.
