Congressman Donnelly Backs Senator Barack Obama for President

Washington, D.C.— Tuesday, Congressman Joe Donnelly released the following statement:

“Today, I am pleased to announce my support for Barack Obama. At a time when too many Americans have lost faith in their government, Senator Obama can move us beyond the politics of stalemate and gridlock that has kept us from meeting the monumental challenges of our time: our dependence on foreign oil, a health care gap that leaves tens of millions uninsured, the steady deterioration of our manufacturing base, and an economy that is not working for working people.

I am looking for a president who can bring this nation together, build bipartisan majorities in Congress, and energize the American people to tackle the tough issues. Senator Clinton is a tenacious fighter for the American people, and particularly for working families, but I believe Barack Obama is the president that we need at this moment in history. He has helped engage over 3 million new voters, tapped into the American people’s powerful desire for change, and pointed the way toward a more hopeful future for our country.

We don't agree on 100 percent of the issues, just as I'm sure that my constituents don't agree with me on 100 percent of the issues. But we share a commitment to working people—to trade that is fair, job growth at home, and health care that is affordable. And we share a determination to keep our military the strongest in the world, while also giving our veterans the care, support, and respect they have earned.

The Democratic Party's strength comes from its core commitment to the American Dream and from a coalition that is ideologically, economically, geographically, and ethnically diverse. Barack Obama will stand with working families while building that coalition so that we can change this country, and that's why he's the best choice for America.”

The second district voted for Obama and so did Donnelly. Since a representative represents his own district (not the entire state like a senator does) he voted how his constituents voted. I can't understand why this is a problem.

I voted for Joe but no more if he isnt going to vote as the people did - for Clinton. I thought he was suppose to be for the people and Clinton won Indiana.

I am so glad to finally know who you were supporting. We need to not worry about the color of Obama skin, but the content of his character. Clinton needs to go on and get out before the divide gets much greater, than the media says it is. Go Joe and I voted for you last tuesday.

I'm not voting for Obama because he is black - I am voting for him because he is brilliant! Thanks Donnelly for supporting him! I have faith in him and his promises for a better America.

I am glad the Congressman announced his support for Obama. The other day I overheard some Obama supporters saying they would not vote for Clinton. I also have heard Clinton supporters say they will not vote for Obama. Well both sets of supporters do dishonor to their candidate if they refuse to support the Democratic Party nominee. Those who want an end to the War, a better economic need to vote for the Democratic candidate who every wins the nomination.

It's way pass the time for ALL working class people to come together and make a difference. We have forgotten that the government works through us and for us! Way to go Joe.

It's astonishing that people can swallow this stuff about "change." Obama is the candidate of the Chicago Machine's "Combine." The truth about him is in the Chicago newspapers but is not being picked up by the national press. By the time the truth gets out, it will be too late for us and our country. This is not change ... this is corruption.

I was thinking about this bitter comment that people are still hammering Obama on....why is it that when Senator Clinton made those comments to ABC about hard-working Americans, white Americans, and wrote those off as a poor choice of words it was accepted as such. However, when Senator Obama used "bitter" instead of "angry/frustrated" and "cling" instead of "rely on", Senator Clinton pounced on them and labeled him as an elitist. Senator Obama's poor choice of words no more make him an elitist
