SJRMC Move: Mishawaka Impact

By Jerry Siefring

(WSBT) The relocated St. Joseph Regional Medical Center will be situated in one of the area’s largest retail and office corridors.

That will, of course, bring technology and medical care closer for some. It may also bring new business.

Businesses along the already-busy north Main Street corridor are looking forward to it. In fact, the owners of Max and Erma’s say they picked their location over others specifically because they knew the hospital had plans to move.

The St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce says the new hospital could bring even more business to the continually-growing area--medical offices, hotels, shopping and restaurants.

“Obviously the investment that will be made in Edison Lakes is substantial,” chamber President and CEO Mark Eagen told NEWS22. “It’s been a number of years since we’ve had an investment like that in our community.”

St. Joseph Community Hospital on 4th Street in downtown Mishawaka will be converted to a specialty care clinic with about 70 beds.

The Edison Lakes hospital complex will also have room for four medical buildings.
