Lawsuit Targets FEMA, Local RV Makers

By Jerry Siefring

(WSBT) A class-action law suit has been filed against FEMA, and some area RV makers, by victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Some say they developed flu-like symptoms after living in the trailers. They blame wood products in the units that contain formaldehyde.

They say part of the problem was many of the trailers stood empty and not properly ventilated for months before they were delivered.

“The end result of lawsuits like this, is it slows down the process at a time when we think that these houses are needed down there,” said Kyle Hannon of the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce. “I can't imagine that that's good for folks.”

The lawsuit is not seeking monetary damages. It only asks that the government fix the reported problem.
