Lake effect snow continues in NW Indiana

LaPORTE, Ind. (AP) — Lake-effect snow and icy roads have caused numerous crashes in northwestern Indiana.

The heaviest snow has hit LaPorte and Porter counties along the southern edge of Lake Michigan.

Meteorologist Bill Wilson of the National Weather Service says Valparaiso recorded 7.4 inches of snow between 8 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday, with more on the way. He said some areas could expect totals of 5 to 10 inches by midday.

State police report numerous slick spots on Interstate 94 and the Indiana Toll Road. As of 4 a.m., troopers had been called to 25 crashes and eight slide-offs on I-94 in Porter County.

Police also reported icy spots on I-69 in the Muncie area.
