LaPORTE CO. — There’s new information in the case of a newborn infant found dead in a LaPorte County field seven months ago.

Police arrested 29-year-old Kathy Phillips Tuesday on charges of murder and neglect of a dependent. She's expected to appear in court on Friday.

A homeowner found the baby wrapped in a towel and placed in a plastic bag near Rolling Prairie back in March.

Neighbors say they were shocked to see police cars surrounding Phillip's house.

“It's been so quiet around here,” says neighbor Ceil Trojanowski. “Nothing's been said and no cops around here on anything and then all of sudden this morning... boom, all this went down."

LaPorte County investigators and prosecutors are not saying anything about the arrest or the case, citing a gag order in the case. Earlier this year, police said they were testing the DNA of a woman, but wouldn't say if it was Phillips’.
