Mother Says Daughter Treated 7-Year-Old Grandson Well

(AP) The mother of Lisa Holland says she found out about her 7-year-old grandson's death on the news.

Betty Taylor testified Tuesday at Lisa Holland's murder trial that she has never talked to her daughter about what happened to Ricky Holland, believing Lisa’s story that the boy ran away.

Lisa Holland of Williamston is charged with first-degree child abuse and felony murder in her adopted son’s 2005 death. Her husband, Tim, led police to the body and later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for testifying against his wife.

Betty Taylor says her daughter was a loving mother who treated Ricky and her other children well.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Wednesday.
