(AP) A 33-year-old Williamston resident has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing her 7-year-old adopted son.

Lisa Holland was convicted of first-degree murder last month for striking her son, Ricky, in the head with a hammer and neglecting to seek help as the boy slowly died. She said nothing as the sentence was announced.

Ingham County Circuit Judge Paula Manderfield choked back tears, as she did earlier this month in sentencing Holland’s husband, Tim, to 30 to 60 years in prison for his role in Ricky’s death.

Manderfield said Lisa Holland “threw away” her child.
