Elkhart Man's Body Recovered from Lake Michigan

By Jim Pinkerton

(WSBT) Divers have recovered the body of an Elkhart man who jumped off the pier at Silver Beach in St. Joseph.

Friends of 20-year-old David Lambert say the strong current pulled him away at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say his friends tried to pull him up, but the waves kept washing him farther away and he just disappeared.

The Berrien County dive team had to call its search efforts because they said the waves and rocks that lined the pier were too dangerous. Many people were on the beach when it happened.

Police rescued four other people Monday, two after jumping off the same pier and two near the beach.
