DETROIT (AP) — A plumber accused of stabbing a woman to death outside her home in Macomb County's Washington Township and dumping her body in a lake was ordered Tuesday to undergo a competency evaluation.

The evaluation of David J. Wright at the state's Center for Forensic Psychiatry may take about 60 days to complete, Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said.

Richard Powers, court-appointed lawyer for Wright, also asked to have his client examined to determine whether he was competent when he gave statements to police and requested a second defense lawyer.

Visiting Judge Herman Campbell, who was hearing the case in Bruce Township's 42nd District Court, did not immediately rule on either request.

Messages seeking comment were left Tuesday with Powers.

Wright, 37, of Richmond, waived his right Tuesday to a preliminary hearing 14 days after being arraigned.

Wright is charged with felony murder, kidnapping and larceny. He was arrested last month and later told police where in Oakland County's Cass Lake to find the body of Marilou Johnson, 50, authorities said.

The mother of three was stabbed several times during a June 4 robbery on the secluded estate about 25 miles north of Detroit that she shared with her boyfriend, authorities said. Her body was buried near Cass Lake. It was later wrapped in a blanket, weighted down with cinder block and dumped in the water.

Police divers pulled up Johnson's decomposing body on June 26.
