INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Governor Mitch Daniels has added former Indiana University President Adam Herbert and four other people to a panel that will look at ways to streamline local government.

New committee members also include former Indiana Secretary of State Sue Anne Gilroy and Louis Mahern, a former Democratic state senator from Indianapolis.

Daniels announced the panel on Wednesday. He named former Democratic Governor Joe Kernan and state Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard as co-chairmen. He said the Blue Ribbon Commission on Local Government Reform will make recommendations on how local government could be less costly. The group will issue recommendations by the end of the year.
