(SBT24/7News) A 21-year-old South Bend man facing multiple felony charges, including a murder count, appeared in a St. Joseph County courtroom before Judge Jane Woodward Miller Tuesday morning on charges of carrying a handgun within 1,000 feet of school property.

In two unrelated cases, Larry R. Mitchell is facing one count of murder for the 2006 shooting death Ja-Vonda Tharbs, 16, and one count of aggravated battery for the 2006 beating of Tyrone Neely, 36.

Mitchell’s murder trial is scheduled for Dec. 10 before Judge John M. Marnocha. One of his attorneys, Deborah Hays, told Miller Tuesday she expects that Mitchell will reach a plea agreement with prosecutors regarding the other two criminal charges.

Mitchell is scheduled to appear in front of Miller and Judge Roland W. Chamblee Jr. on Sept. 11.
