FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Fort Wayne police have charged a man with stealing thousands of dollars worth of copper gutters from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Police believe 24-year-old DeAngelo Erby was one of three men who tore the gutters off church buildings in June. Police are seeking warrants for the arrest of two others.

A priest told officers he heard noises about 3 a.m. June 18. He looked out his window and saw three men pulling the gutters off the back of the main church building.

The priest told police he knocked on the window, made faces at the men and waved his hands, and the men ran off.

Police found the damaged gutters at a scrap metal dealer.
