Neighbors worried after body found in local park

The body of a woman was found just before midnight Wednesday under this jungle gym at Ravina Park in South Bend.

(WSBT) An autopsy was scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. Thursday on a woman's body found overnight in a local park.

Police were called to Ravina Park on South Bend's south side just before midnight Wednesday. That's near the corner of Indiana and Lebanon.

Police are not releasing the name of the woman at this time. She was found near a jungle gym in the middle of Ravina Park.

The park is surrounded by houses and is a popular place for kids to hang out. That has some neighbors concerned for their safety.

"I'm always nervous with two kids in the house,” said neighbor Bill Sagendorf. “My daughter's 20 and my son's 16."

"It's kind of close to home,” said Shanice Benton, who lives near the park. “It's happening a lot now. It's getting crazy."

Another neighbor told WSBT News he isn't surprised this happened. He says that’s because the surrounding trees are a good place for people to hide at night.
