Toy Recalls Affecting eBay, Christmas Sales

By WSBT News1

(WSBT) Sometimes it seems like we're hearing about a new toy recall every day. Now there are places other than the store where you should be on alert for recalled toys, like the Internet and flea markets.

Just last week, a check showed 111 listings on eBay for the Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway. It was recalled last month for being built with excessive levels of lead.

Among the millions of other recalled toys, reports say you can find some of the Mattel items online as well. Ebay already sent a warning to sellers that they could lose their accounts if caught selling recalled toys.

To test your child's toys for lead, you can get lead testing kits at local home improvement stores. They help you detect the toxin in toys, cribs, painted walls, furniture and many other things you might have around your house.

To test your kids for lead poisoning, you should take them to your doctor.

Christmas Day is 11 weeks away. Some economists are predicting all the recent toy recalls could affect last minute shoppers. They say this year's hottest toys could be sold out a few weeks from now because all the recalls are making it slow for toys to get onto store shelves.
