MISHAWAKA — Some people gave their voices, some people gave their time, but everyone who came out for 22 Ways of Giving this year opened their hearts.

“I do it every year. I donate something, clothes or food or whatever,” said Loretta Anders, who donated at this year's 22 Ways of Giving.

“I think it’s a good deal,” said Marie Rink, of Mishawaka. “I think people need it and I enjoy helping if I can.”

As more and more people come out to give this year, the agencies say they're very grateful and say those donations will be put to good use.

Some donations were big, but others were much smaller, from the smallest among us.

"Since we were giving out money, what I thought I'd do is start taking out some of my pennies and start giving them away,” said Zach Thomas.

Shari Thomas remembers the kindness of strangers when her family was going through tough times.

“One year, my husband had surgery and we had to go to St. Vincent de Paul and it was very humbling and we had toys from Toys for Tots and we actually had a fabulous Christmas that year, so we just like to give back,” Thomas said.

So she brought her children out this year, with their bags of 22 pennies and their envelopes of $22, to show them that there are much more than 22 ways to give.

“I think it's wonderful. I think it's a great way to get all the charities together and just make one stop and I think it's important for the kids to realize that Christmas is about giving, not just receiving," she said.

Even if you couldn’t make it out on Saturday, it’s not too late to give to our 22 Ways of Giving agencies. They’ll be accepting donations throughout the holiday season. Click on the link in the Related Content box for more information.
