MISHAWAKA — Local police need your help fighting crime. The Mishawaka police department is hosting a safety seminar on Tuesday March 4 for local home and business owners. The neighborhood enforcement team will discuss personal safety, Neighborhood Watches and home safety.

Police say it’s not enough for them to fight crime alone. They believe reducing the risk and fear of crime is a task for the police and the community working together.

“We’re trying to help our community become a safer community. It’s hard for us to be everywhere, and we really want to work together to provide the safest city in Indiana,” said Mishawaka police Lt. Tim Williams. “The idea is to make your home more secure and make your property less inviting for someone to come in and steal from you.

Some advice Williams offers home and business owners is to make sure shrubs are cut back so criminals can’t hide in them. He also suggests locking windows and doors both when you’re at home and when you’re away.

Police will have more advice at a Homes Safety Seminar scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the Mishawaka Police Department.

The seminar is open to everyone, including those who do not live or own a business in Mishawaka. For more information, call Mishawaka Police: (574) 258-1678 ext 249.
