GOSHEN — Local veterans have a new place to get medical care. Monday afternoon marks the grand opening of the Goshen Veterans Clinic.

For many Elkhart County veterans this means less driving time. Before now, many were traveling to Fort Wayne, South Bend and even Indianapolis for medical treatment.

"We're thrilled. It's been a long trail to get to this point," said Gary Whitehead of the Elkhart County Veterans Services.

The new clinic is 5,000 square feet and is expected to serve 2,500 veterans this year. The former Big Lots store at that location was renovated so that the clinic can expand to meet any rising demand in the future.

The clinic was set up to make it more convenient for Elkhart County veterans to get care; but all veterans are welcome.

Monday's celebration begins at 2 p.m. and is open to the public.
