ELKHART COUNTY — Thousands of unemployed RV workers in Elkhart County are looking for new work.

It isn't easy. But on Tuesday, a group found much more than just a job.

Inside an office building across the street from the Faith Mission is a rebuilding project.

“I felt kind of sorry for myself because I didn't have a job. And I see some of these people who are trying to make a go in life,“ said Ed Neufeldt, a laid off RV worker. “I just really feel good about helping. It just made me really humble and thankful for what I have."

The mission bought the building to turn it into the new Women and Family Center.

Members of the Nappanee Missionary Church are volunteering alongside professionals to build a place others can come to rebuild their lives.

That isn’t the only rebuilding that's happening there.

As it turns out a number of those working with the church group were laid off from their jobs in the RV industry. But they say they feel it's a blessing to give back to help with this project.

“Its a great way to use our extra time we have right now and not sit at home and wonder what the future holds — just trust in God," said Judy Jordan, another former RV employee.

"This is a blessing coming up here. It’s just nice to be able to get out and help other people,” added Donnie Gaut. “Just like you said, not just sit around and do nothing.”

And the progress continues.

“It speeds up the timetable, it reduces the cost and they become part of the Faith Mission. I mean its a win-win situation for us," explained Faith Mission of Elkhart representative Ross Swihart. "I think they are getting blessed as much as we are."

Faith Mission is hoping for donations of construction products or furniture for the new Women and Family Center.
