PINK-OUT Day at JFK Middle School in Enfield

During the month of October, the students and staff of the John F. Kennedy Middle School were involved in a project to support the American Cancer Society in its fight to find a cure for cancer. Every Friday was designated a PINK-OUT Day and all students and staff were encouraged to wear pink to show their support. Pink JFK Cares t-shirts were sold with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Additional fund raisers included sales of pink bracelets and pink rubber ducks which added to a total donation of just over $1000.

An assembly was held at the beginning of October in which several students, staff members, and guests spoke about how cancer affected their lives and the lives of those they love. On Nov. 2, all students and staff culminated the month long project by forming the letters HOPE on the athletic fields behind the school. This event took on special significance as the event not only symbolized hope for a cure for those affected by all forms of cancer, but also honored the memory of a fellow student, Hope Hartnett, who recently lost her life in a tragic house fire.

Nov. 2nd was a very special day that will long be remembered by all those involved in the project.
