Why Should I Advertise?

Advertising is done for many different reasons. It can promote your business location(s), increase your traffic, develop brand loyalty, increase employee pride, and of course, increase revenue and profits for your business.

Who Should I Advertise on TV?

All types of businesses may benefit by using television advertising to reach current or potential customers with their message. WSBT-TV offers a full service marketing program to help you position your business at the top of mind of Michiana consumers.

Why Should I Advertise on Local Broadcast Television?

Local television is the most powerful, credible and influential medium available. Virtually every home in Michiana has one or more televisions. Television reaches over 600,000 adults each week right here in our area.  Television impacts viewers with sight, sound, emotion and color.

Why Should I Advertise on WSBT?

The South Bend television market has shifted pretty dramatically over the last three years. Where does WSBT-TV fit in this new South Bend Television landscape?

·         Well, CBS Television is the number one rated television network nationally…but WSBT is even stronger locally.

·         WSBT is home to “Dr. Phil” and “Oprah” in the afternoon…followed by the top rated 5 to 6:30PM local news block…that is followed by the long running and successful “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” from 7 – 8PM.

·         What this means for youis the opportunity to access the largest local television audience in the market during this five hour stretch. The big reach and five hour length of this assemblage of programs enables an advertiser to achieve both reach and frequency. The frequency opportunity is really a function of time spent with a medium. During this five hour stretch…WSBT is home to biggest audience in South Bend, the five hour duration, in turn, provides the chance to reach viewers over and over again!

·         From 8 to 11PM…CBS prime is once again the “Gold Standard” for broadcast television networks. The CBS primetime line-up not only leads in households and adults…but leads in 18-49 Adults.

·         What this means for you is the opportunity reach big chunks of assured unduplicated audience at one time in CSI Miami, The Mentalist, Survivor, CSI, 60 Minutes and others! CBS prime reaches 75 to 80 percent of South Bend adults…every week.

·         And, CBS prime performs year around. Even repeat episodes of CBS comedies and dramas have performed at 94 percent of the original episodes’

·         WSBT Late News following prime was the #1 rated late newscast during the November 2008 rating period. More than 25,000 homes are tuned in to WSBT at 11PM every nightyear around!

·         What this means for you is consistent delivery of a loyal connected audience you can depend on!

·         More recently, WSBT has taken the lead in early morning news in South Bend! This change from 5 to 7AM offers significant evidence of the change in news leadership in South Bend.

·         What this means for you is an active, and interactive audience available all day, that is connected because of their attachment to WSBT for their local news connection!

·         WSBT also attracts big and attractive audiences for some of the top sporting broadcasts of the year. From the March Madness of the NCAA Basketball Tournament and the Masters Golf Championship in April…through the popular (local) broadcast of the Indianapolis Colts and the AFC Conference of the NFL in the fall…large hard to reach audiences sit back to watch their favorite events on WSBT!

·         What this means for you is a constant fresh supply of sometimes light television viewers that connect with the station for big events…but return to view other promoted programming. This regular “freshening” of the WSBT audience pays big dividends to WSBT advertisers!

·         The above is all great stuff…but the new South Bend television market in 2009 and going forward…WSBT has clearly assumed the television leadership position in the community and region!

·         WSBT-TV is the only locally owned television station in the market.
·         WSBT is owned by a closely held family run corporation that is headquartered in Mishawaka.
·         WSBT is the only South Bend television station originating high definition programming.
·         WSBT is co-owned with the South Bend Tribune newspaper.
·         WSBT and the Tribune comprise the largest local news organization in the community and region.
·         WSBT averages 500,000 unique monthly visitors to wsbt.com web site.

·         What does this mean for you? WSBT is connected to the community. Viewers know that the people who run WSBT live here too…and understand that the owners continue to demonstrate their commitment to providing the best news and information programming in the area. As evidenced by recent news growth…when viewers need to know, they will increasingly turn to WSBT….because they know WSBT has their interest at heart.

How Much Does It Cost?

Some business people have a perception that advertising on television is expensive, when indeed it is not. Advertising generally is priced by 1) audience size 2) demand, and 3) seasonality. Advertising on television can be one of the most efficient ways to reach Michiana consumers.  A thirty second commercial starts as low as $10.

What’s Involved in Producing a Commercial?

We have a highly experienced staff of award winning producers who can help you easily design a commercial to fit your needs. There are many different ways to produce a commercial. Typically a 30-second commercial will involve the following things: planning, copywriting, video shooting, editing, design and production of graphics, an announcer, and more. The value of the production will depend on what your concept is and how technically involved it may be. The total turnaround time from concept to TV screen is 7-10 business days and in most cases less time is needed.   Plus, WSBT is the only TV station that can produce your TV commercial in High Definition taking advantage of the latest digital technology.
