Darla Hernandez

By (BI) Jay LaPlante

Darla Hernandez anchors WSBT News Saturday Morning. She holds a bachelors degree from California State University of Northridge where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. During high school and college, while living in New York City and Los Angeles, Darla appeared on shows such as “All My Children”. Modeling and commercial work were also part of her college experience.

Darla has held anchoring and reporter positions in California, Colorado, and Michigan. Before coming to WSBT, Darla worked in Flint, Michigan. She anchored the weekend news and reported. She is involved in community events including speaking engagements as well as many charity events.

Darla has received many awards, including “1st place, Best Spot News Reporting” by the Indiana Associated Press and “Hispanic Woman of Achievement”.

But she says the greatest gift she has received is the benefit of learning from and sharing in the lives of those she has interviewed, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, military personnel, Michael Moore, and firefighters defending the wild fires in Colorado. However, one 16-year-old hero who stood 4 feet tall -- stricken with a rare aging disease called Progeria -- always comes to mind.

“I was so saddened, but thankful to have known him, when he passed,” Darla said.

Darla is very grateful and happy to be welcomed so warmly to Indiana as part of the WSBT family. You can reach her at darlah@wsbt.com.
