Kristin Bien

By Jim Pinkerton

Kristin grew up in Huntley, Illinois, a small town about an hour west of Chicago. Growing up, her dream was to be a Broadway star. Kristin attended the University of Indianapolis where she majored in theater her freshman year. She realized after taking a broadcasting class, her real passion was for news.

In college, Kristin immersed herself in television. She interned at WTHR in Indianapolis and was awarded first place for "Best TV story" with the Indiana Association of Schools in 2003. In 2004, she won a second place award for "TV news or feature" and a third place award from the Society of Professional Journalists for "Best reporting." Kristin graduated with a BS in communications, with an emphasis on electronic media.

Before joining WSBT, she worked at KMOT-TV in Minot, North Dakota. She was the assistant news director and 6 p.m. anchor. She also reported on education issues. In 2009, she was awarded the North Dakota Broadcasters Association Teddy Award as "best news anchor" in the state.

Kristin lives in South Bend with her husband and their dogs. When she's not at work, you can find her camping or biking.
